Two strongly programmed European Jazz Festivals – an inaugural Polish Jazz Festival and the seventh Sounds of Denmark Festival – will be taking place in London at the end September(*) : surely, counterweights at other times of the year to November’s EFG London Jazz Festival can only be a good thing, and these opportunities to witness the range of jazz and related music coming from Europe are very welcome.

(*) Sounds of Denmark will also be presenting a concert at Turner Sims in Southampton

Names which stand out from Denmark are

  • Jasper Høiby who will bring a new 3Elements trio with pianist Xavi Torres and drummer Naima Acuña
  • Cecilie Strange Quartet whose Bremen show was one of Alex Dutilh’s highlights at jazzahead!

From Poland:

  • Aga Zaryan is the only former Warsaw teenage tennis champion to have been signed by Blue Note
  • Leszek Możdżer is an artist who always brings London’s Poles together….
