A good friend to UKJN, Jay Visvadeva, has sent us this sad news this morning, after a day in which premature reports of Zakir Hussain’s death had been rife:
“TABLA MAESTRO USTAD ZAKIR HUSSAIN HAS LEFT THE STAGE
He passed away at 15.42 Pacific Central Time in San Francisco. ( 23.42 UK Time – 15 Dec 2024) Cause of death – Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. This is an official announcement. I extend my condolences to all family members in San Francisco, London & Mumbai, and friends, well wishers from around the world. Zakir Hussain has left a great musical legacy.”
