Following on from this Wednesday’s third press release from Serious/ EFG LJF, PizzaExpress are announcing the gigs they will be hosting as part of the 2023 EFG London Jazz Festival. Performances will take place at PizzaExpress Soho, PizzaExpress Holborn and Pheasantry, as well as free-entry lunchtime shows at the Soho venue every Monday to Friday. The full listing (+ booking links where available) for the three venues is below
This list of exactly 50 gigs is well worth a detailed look. There are so many visitors from the US here, notably pianists: Benny Green, Kevin Hays, Alan Broadbent, Joey Calderazzo. Micah Thomas (invisible to the eye – he’s in Billy Drummond‘s group, thank you Tessa Souter, 10 November, for that), Ray Gallon… The last of these is with veteran raconteur/bassist/singer Jay Leonhart, whom I don’t remember seeing in London in 30+ years. And check out some of the recent reviews of Binker Golding‘s group…and there’s David Murray too…
