The programme for the BBC Proms 2021 is announced today and the season programme is available online and from bookshops. The season runs from 30 July to 11 September. Booking will open on 26 June. (more detail below) .
A cursory skim through the programme this morning revealed a substantial focus on Stravinsky – and also these concerts with a jazz connection. Are there more?
31 July BBC Concert Orch / The Golden Age of Broadway with eg Gershwin and Cole Porter
7 August – National Youth Orchestra includes new work by Laura Jurd
15 August Able Selaocoe – Africa Meets Europe
17 August – Manchester Collective – includes work by Julius Eastman, and Joseph Horovitz’s Jazz Concerto for harpsichord
18 August – Nubya Garcia
It has to be noted that some substantial details are still to be fixed: “We are hoping to welcome the maximum number of audience members that are safely allowed and will be following Government guidance. Further details about distancing measures, details of how you can safely enjoy your Prom visit and ticket prices and bands will be announced in due course.”
In tenuously related very good news… the Royal Albert Hall’s short film narrated by Mick Jagger “Your Room Will Be Ready” (*) has just won a Brand Film Award
