Vocalist Louise Balkwill, originally from Oadby, Leicester, won the Riga Jazz Stage vocal competition in April 2022. She has just released a new video:
Louise writes:
“This new video is the first in a series of three with my new quartet; Chris Eldred (piano), Theo Malka Wishart (bass) and Joshua Walker Martin (drums).
“I’ve always loved writing vocalese and am a huge fan of Sonny Stitt, but this is the first Stitt solo that I’ve written lyrics to – mostly his blowing is so challenging to sing! I decided to sing this for the first round of Riga Jazz Stage 2022, and as it went down so well and is so much fun to sing, I thought it would only be right to share it…I hope you enjoy it!”
