“There’s probably no frame wide enough to encompass the creative output of the pianist Vijay Iyer.” New York Times

Two imminent London events will show something of that range. In anticipation we have a prize draw with a difference…

Saturday 1 October – Royal Festival Hall

The London Philharmonic Orchestra will give the world premiere of Vijay Iyer’s new cello concerto, Human Archipelago in a concert conducted by Edward Gardner . Iyer will attend the rehearsals and the concert.

NOTE (based on text supplied by the LPO): The piece is inspired by a collection of images and texts by Iyer’s friend writer Teju Cole and photographer Fazal Sheikh. The themes here are climate change and migration and the piece fits into the orchestra’s main season theme this year “A Place to Call Home”.

There is also a 10pm free-admission performance in the Clore Ballroom – details
