This really is one of London’s best-kept summer secrets. Cadogan Hall (in its Culford Room aka foyer) offers twelve two-hour programmes on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes. £5 for a seat but it is free to stand (*). Rebecca Stewart, Concerts Manager at Cadogan Hall, gives the background to this thirteenth series of concerts:
I am very much looking forward to our ‘Out to Lunch’ jazz series, which is back again this summer for its 13th year! We started the series to create activity in our foyer during times when it is not being used. Our foyer spaces open to ticket holders 90 minutes before an evening performance, but tend not to be used during the day, so we wanted to curate a series of free events to encourage people to engage with the hall and see what we are about.
I began by programming a variety of different events – classical chamber music, singer-songwriter sessions, author talks, and even a dance class. However, it was the jazz events which were the most popular by far, so we decided to devote the whole of the next series to Jazz and have not looked back.
It is wonderful to be able provide a platform for smaller ensembles, new and experimental projects together with established artists. There is a multitude of exciting and creative ideas out there at the moment, which makes programming this series an exciting and incredibly enjoyable task.
This year, for the first time, I am delighted to welcome a harp to the series – Tara Minton’s ‘Two for the Road’ on 10th August – pianist Phil Merriman (27th July) and fantastic vocalist Lulu Pierre (15th August) alongside some familiar OTL artists, including Nick Costley White (20th July), Sophie Alloway (3rd August) and Rob Barron (1st August).
Whether you are a regular customer of Cadogan Hall, have just discovered us, or have never listened to jazz before, these events offer a lovely opportunity to try us out – grab a drink and snack from our bar and make a few new friends while you listen to some incredible jazz musicians perform. I look forward to seeing you there! (quote ends).
