The new premises licence application for a Blue Note Jazz Club in London at 42-49 St Martin’s Lane – and for the hours requested – was approved by the Westminster’s Licensing Sub-Committee at a meeting on 1 May.

Petitioner David West has also had it confirmed from Blue Note that the hours they were requesting – Monday to Saturday 09:00 to 01:00, Sunday 09:00 to 00:00 – have been granted, and is looking forward to taking down his petition in the next few days.

Westminster City Council’s announcement states that: “Westminster is home to some of the capital’s most loved music venues and we want to ensure late night entertainment can continue to thrive.…In this case it was clear that venue management have engaged extensively with local people to improve their application and address the concerns that were raised by the police. We’re pleased that, following the approval of this application, jazz lovers will soon be able to enjoy the Blue Note Jazz Club.”

The council is also launching its first “Westminster After Dark Strategy” (link below)

Westminster City Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development, Cllr Geoff Barraclough said: “This is exactly the kind of venue we want to see more of in Westminster and which is encouraged in our After Dark strategy as part of a more varied evening and night time offer across the city. As a jazz lover I can’t wait to visit.”

We will add a formal statement from Blue Note when we have it.
