Guildford Jazz’s first livestream of the new year features the Alan Barnes and Dave Newton Quartet from the Boileroom in Guildford on Tuesday 12 January. The gig is being presented in collaboration with Jazz in Reading, Berkhamsted Jazz and Chichester Jazz Club.
Sax player and jazz impresario Alan Barnes and award winning pianist David Newton have been playing together for over 40 years, always keeping the emphasis on swing, accessibility and interplay.
Two of the most engaging and naturally humorous people on the UK jazz scene, you can expect a hugely entertaining programme of straight ahead jazz flawlessly played and interspersed with lots of fun and anecdotes!
They are joined here by Matt Home on drums and Marianne Windham on bass.
Marianne, who is also from Guildford Jazz, says: “This will be an evening of warmth, humour and outstanding musicianship for our first livestream gig of the new year. While we know livestream is but a pale shadow of a live gig, it is the best way to keep jazz going for now, both for our audience and the musicians.”
This performance, with Matt Home on drums and Marianne Windham on bass, is being hosted by Guildford Jazz in collaboration with Berkhamsted Jazz, Chichester Jazz Club and Jazz in Reading, in the first collaboration of its type.”Connecting with the other clubs in this way,” Marianne says, “has been a joy and will hopefully last long beyond COVID.”
The performance will be recorded and broadcast live from the Boileroom starting at 7.30pm and finishing shortly before 9pm, followed by a post-gig chat and chuckle session at the bar, where you’ll have a chance to ask the band your questions.
